History

“Once Buffalo’s earliest business hub, the neighborhood quickly transformed into a bustling mill district, powered by the canals of ‘The Hydraulics.’ In 1876, a young John D. Larkin set up a small soap factory at 663 Seneca Street — a humble start that grew into the nation’s leading mail-order company. By the turn of the century, Seneca Street buzzed with 87 shops between Larkin and Smith, shaping one of Buffalo’s most vibrant and tightly knit districts.”

Where every day mixes history, community, and energy.

Larkinville has been transformed into one of Buffalo’s most vibrant neighborhoods, beginning with Larkin Development Group’s 2002 restoration of the 600,000 square foot Larkin Terminal Warehouse. Since then, new streetscapes, restaurants, and shops have flourished, anchored by Larkin Square — a lively park and venue that hosts free concerts and community events year-round.
